President Nana Akufo-Addo has declared the governments plan to clear way for the provision of 10,000 units of affordable houses across the country for teachers.
He said the government is targeting to implement the project in the next two years as the Ministry for Works and Housing was in discussion with the teacher union.
In addition, the President said the Ministry of Education was working with the National Service Scheme, to provide more housing opportunities for teachers through subsided loans.
He was speaking at the 6th Quadrennial and 53rd Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Kumasi.
He said his government is committed to ensuring that teachers would own homes, as they have observed that, one of the challenges facing teachers beyond finance is their inability to purchase homes where they plan to retire.

He stated, “Government recognises that all modern successful nations that have experienced extraordinary results in the formation of human capital and economic development have shown that teacher quality is perhaps the single most important determinant of their success”.
For that reason, is important to pay heed to teachers in pursuit of enhanced development, stressing that it was only a group of well trained and influenced teachers that could aid in delivering skilled workforce required to transform the nation.
President Nana Akufo-Addo also promised to address all matters concerning the ‘one teacher on laptop’ initiative.
