Ghanaian Church Elder Loses GHC800k In Sports Betting; Narrates Life Story

Jonathan as identified as an elder of a Church has recounted how he lost his life-saving GHc800k and went bankrupt due to addiction to sports betting.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM Drive, monitored by Znewsgh.com, the young man explained excessive sports betting caused him to lose his life savings, three houses, a fleet of cars, and monies for his company.

Johnathan said he was a novice who got lucky and won some odds but the excitement of knowing he could make easy money pulled him into huge debt and he is now struggling to get out of it.

“It was a friend who introduced me to betting and my first stake was GHc5000. I was a novice but the guy who introduced me was good at sports analysis so I had a profit of GHc3900,” he said.

According to him, he continued to place a huge sum of money on bets and won huge till everything took a nose dive and he began losing.

“The second time I placed a bet of GHc3000 and won GHc5000. On the third time, I staked GHc20,000 and won GHc80,000. I asked God where has this been all this while that I have been suffering. I didn’t know there was such an avenue to make me rich and that day the betting spirit sank deep into my spirit and blood,” Jonathan said.

In an attempt to redeem what he had invested, he borrowed money and used company capital to bet and lost that as well.

Jonathan has now become an advocate who uses his life story to advise people against gambling addiction.
