Ghanacard To Serve As E-passport In Over 197 Countries And 44,000 Airports Worldwide

The newly designed Ghanacard most highly anticipated talked-about in Ghana right now.

According to the vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, by the end of the first quarter of 2022, the Ghanacard will be recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The card will be recognised as Electronic Passport, and can be read and verified in all international Civil Aviation Organisation compliance borders Globally within ten seconds.

The Ghanacard which carry a unique biometric identification details of the bearer, will be accepted as e-passport in 197 borders and 44000 airports worldwide.

Which mean a holder of Ghanacard will be allowed to board any flight to Ghana by showing up at the airport with just the Ghanacard.

This followed Ghana’s officially acceptance as the 79th member of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) Community, on October 13th 2021.

The vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made this known, when He was delivering speech at the Ashesi University at Berekuso, in the Eastern Region of Ghana, on how Ghana economic will benefit from the digitisation.

In His speech Dr. Bawumia also said that Ghanaians in the diaspora can travel back to Ghana with just the Ghanacard, without necessary obtaining Ghana visa, soon the National Identification Authority (NIA) will be link to Ghana Immigration Service, to allow a swiftly processing of identification checks at the airport, and all the entry points of Ghana.

According to the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over 15 million Ghanaians have already been issued with the Ghanacard, which is also accepted in all Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS).
