GHANA FDA RECALLED COAGULATED NESTLE IDEAL MILK

Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has begun recollecting some batches of Nestle Ghana’s evaporated milk from markets over the country due to complaints from the consumers.

The FDA disclosed in a press release that, it had taken on an extensive control action to find out why consumers milk were thick in spite of it not being expired.

The FDA said the main grounds investigations showed that the creamed milk powder (raw material) used to produce the milk, complained of the raw material having poor heat stability.

Part of the statement from the authority read, “this results in the denaturing of the protein leading to the coagulation of the milk. Denatured protein, however, poses no health risk. The analysis also confirmed that there was no leaching of dangerous chemicals from the inner (lacquer) lining into the milk product”.

The FDA said it found no microbial filth of the samples they took, and consequently there was no food safety issues.

But due to the investigation, batches of evaporated milk produced with the affected raw materials are being collected back.

They further added, “as of January 9, 2022, a total of 57,938 cans of the products have been retrieved by Nestle nationwide. The process is being monitored by the FDA. Therefore, anybody in possession of Ideal and Carnation milk with the batch numbers listed above should return them to Nestle or any FDA offices nationwide”.

This due to the numerous complains from the consumers of these Nestle milk about buying tins of coagulated milk.

For the time being, the Authority has suggested customers for their awareness and inspired them to continue reporting matters noticed with any of its regulated products for the suitable managerial measures to be taken to secure the well-being and welfare of the public.

The FDA assures the public that its Industrial Support Department continues to work with Nestle to ensure that the quality defect would not recur.
