GH₵1M Recruitment Scam: Alleged National Security Operative in Court for Fr@ud

A trader accused of defrauding 46 people of over GH₵1 million under the guise of securing them employment in the Ghana Security Service has been remanded in police custody.

Joseph Agemba, who allegedly claimed to be a National Security Operative at the Jubilee House, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on December 25, 2024, facing multiple charges of defrauding by false pretenses.

The accused is said to have collected GH₵1,096,500 from 46 victims, promising them jobs within various security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Immigration, Prisons, Armed Forces, and the Ghana Revenue Authority.

However, none of the promised recruitments materialized, and Agemba reportedly pocketed the money.

In addition to the recruitment scam, Agemba allegedly took money from two people, promising to secure them USA and German visas but failed to deliver.

He also collected GH₵54,000 from the complainant, Patience Solomon, an Immigration officer, claiming he would assist her in purchasing an auctioned car.

However, he failed to fulfill that promise as well.

The court did not take Agemba’s plea due to ongoing investigations, as more victims have come forward with complaints.

Prosecutor Chief Jonas Lawer, representing Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richard Amoah, requested the accused be remanded to prevent any interference with the investigation.

The court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, granted the request and remanded Agemba into police custody. He is scheduled to reappear before the court on December 27, 2024.

According to the prosecution, Agemba’s alleged fraudulent activities involved collecting amounts ranging from GH₵7,000 to GH₵22,000 from each of his victims, who were promised recruitment slots for various government security agencies.

The total amount fraudulently obtained is reported to be GH₵1,931,000.

Agemba’s arrest followed a report from Patience Solomon, who became suspicious after Agemba failed to deliver on his promises. The case continues to unfold as more victims come forward.
