Four Arrested Over Deadly Attack on Momo Vendor in Aflao

Police in the Volta Region have arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of a mobile money (Momo) vendor in Aflao, following a coordinated security operation.

According to a statement released by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Felix Danku, the Public Relations Officer of the Volta Regional Police Command, the arrests were made on May 10, 2025, through a joint intelligence-led operation involving several police units and the local community.

The suspects—Michael Sewornu, 34, Korku Agboada, 43, Atsu Agbagla, 36, and Utsuku Onyeso, 22, a Nigerian national—are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

The arrests come nearly two weeks after the tragic incident that claimed the life of 35-year-old Christopher Ahordo, a well-known Momo vendor in Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao.

On April 28, around 6:15 p.m., Ahordo was reportedly attacked by a group of unidentified gunmen. He was shot on the spot and died at the scene.

The attackers fled with his bag, believed to contain a significant amount of cash from the day’s business.

The brutal nature of the attack sent shockwaves through the Aflao community and prompted increased calls for justice and improved safety for Momo vendors and small business operators.

The police, through their statement, commended the collaborative efforts of their SWAT Unit, Operation Motherland Taskforce, and the local ‘ACTION NOW’ Watch Committee.

They also renewed calls for public vigilance and urged residents to share timely information about suspicious activity.

“This breakthrough shows what we can achieve when we work together,” DSP Danku said.

As investigations continue, the police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice is served and have pledged to intensify patrols in the area.
