The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region is mourning the loss of Dr. Bernice Adiku Heloo, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency.
She passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at the age of 70.
Dr. Adiku Heloo served as the MP for Hohoe from January 7, 2013, to January 2021.
During her time in office, she was appointed by former President John Dramani Mahama as Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology and Innovation in 2013.
Her tenure was marked by a strong commitment to public service, governance, and political economy.
A statement from the NDC’s Hohoe Constituency Secretary, Mr. Prosper Kumi, conveyed heartfelt condolences to her family and the NDC fraternity.
“On behalf of the party leadership and the MP-elect, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, we wish to sympathize with the family and the NDC fraternity,” the release stated.
Dr. Adiku Heloo was a passionate advocate for women’s rights, education, and healthcare.
She was the founder of Prolink, an NGO dedicated to empowering disadvantaged communities, especially women and girls.
Her work in these areas earned her widespread respect, and her legacy will continue to inspire future leaders and public servants.
Born on September 24, 1954, in Hohoe, Dr. Adiku Heloo had a distinguished educational background.
She attended Mawuli School in Ho and earned her A-levels from OLA Senior High School.
She held a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana, an MPhil in Adult Education from the same university, and an M.Ed. in Literacy for Rural Development from the University of Manchester.
She also obtained a Doctorate from the Swiss Management Centre University.
Her death leaves a void in the Hohoe community and the larger political landscape, where she was known for her resilience and dedication.
Dr. Bernice Adiku Heloo will be deeply missed by her family, colleagues, and the communities she served.
