Election Scandal: EC Official Arrested Over Missing Bawumia Image on Ballots

The Ghana Police Service has arrested an official of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dery Joseph, in the Kintampo South Constituency of the Bono East Region.

This comes after allegations that the EC official issued ballot papers with a significant error, omitting the image of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the first presidential candidate, during the ongoing 2024 elections.

The incident took place at the Ampeiska-Bayere polling station, where Mr. Joseph reportedly handed out around 15 faulty ballot papers to voters.

The missing image of Dr. Bawumia was noticed by alert voters, who immediately raised concerns and reported the issue to the relevant authorities.

Thanks to their quick action, the matter was swiftly addressed. The police responded rapidly by apprehending Mr. Joseph and confiscating the incorrect ballot papers before they could be used in the election.

The situation was contained without further disruption to the voting process.

The Electoral Commission has since pledged to investigate the matter thoroughly.
