M N RidwanAn Accra High Court has ordered the Attorney General’s Office to submit all witness statements in the ongoing criminal case against Kwabena Adu-Boahene by May 20, 2025.
Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante, who is presiding over the case, made the order during a hearing earlier today.
He emphasized the need for the prosecution to move faster, especially because of the impact that delays could have on the rights and freedom of the accused.
Mr. Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, are both facing serious charges related to a GHS 49 million corruption case.
They were officially charged in April by Attorney General Dominic Ayine and are currently out on bail. The case is expected to continue on May 26.
The couple is facing 11 charges, including stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretence, and causing financial loss to the state.
According to prosecutors, Mr. Adu-Boahene, who once oversaw national cybersecurity, allegedly teamed up with others to divert public funds meant for national security projects.
One major allegation involves a $7 million deal signed with an Israeli company, ISC Holdings Limited, to purchase cybersecurity software.
But instead of the funds going toward that project, they were reportedly moved into personal bank accounts.
Others mentioned in the case include Mildred Donkor and a company named Advantage Solutions Limited, which prosecutors say was part of the scheme.
On May 2, the court had previously directed that Mr. Adu-Boahene be held in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days. This was to give the Attorney General enough time to prepare the necessary witness statements.
With the new deadline set for May 20, all eyes are on the AG’s office to meet the court’s expectations and move the trial forward.
