M N RidwanSenegal and Algeria will square off in the 7th African Nations Championship final game (CHAN).
On Tuesday night, January 31, the Senegalese defeated Madagascar 1-0 to advance.
Goalkeeper Zakanirina Rakotoasimbola erroneously raced off his line as Pape Diallo made a sprint into the box that many Malagasy defenders missed.
To that effect, Diallo then nodded the ball into the goal.
Constantly in charge, Senegal missed multiple opportunities to extend their lead in the second half, and Cheikh Diouf was replaced right away after wasting a golden opportunity in the 71st minute.
The historic odyssey of Barea came to an end as a result. The Malagasy national team had never before advanced to this stage of a continental competition.
Meanwhile, Aymen Mahious, a 25-year-old attacker from Algiers club USM, is the competition’s top scorer. He scored two of the goals that qualified Algeria.
It surpassed the 4-0 defeat Morocco inflicted on hosts Cameroon in the previous edition two years ago as the largest winning margin in a CHAN semi-final.
For the final on Saturday, 40,000 spectators are anticipated at the Stade Nelson Mandela in Algiers.
