A sense of sorrow and disbelief has gripped the community of Ahwiaa in the Ashanti Region after the lifeless body of a 25-year-old man, Richmond Owusu Kankam, was found by the roadside on Sunday, 6th April 2025.
The discovery of his body near the Ahwiaa RC School has raised suspicions and questions surrounding the circumstances of his untimely death.
Richmond, who lived with his grandmother in Mamponteng, was last seen on Friday when he left home to run errands at the local market. His mother, Nana Yaa, was left in shock after receiving a disturbing phone call later that day from a relative in Accra, who informed her that Richmond had allegedly been killed.
Panicked and worried for her son’s safety, Nana Yaa immediately visited his workplace, only to find it locked and devoid of any trace of Richmond. Desperate for answers, she made her way to several of his usual hangouts and even visited the Mamponteng Police Station, but her search yielded no results.
“The police told me he might have spent the night at his girlfriend’s house, but they didn’t seem to take it seriously,” Nana Yaa shared, frustration clear in her voice. “I just wanted to find my son.”
On the morning of Sunday, as Nana Yaa continued her relentless search, she was traveling in a tricycle (Pragya) when the driver mentioned that a body had been discovered nearby. Guided by a mother’s instinct, she rushed to the location, where she was devastated to find her son’s body.
The news of Richmond’s death has left the local community in shock, with many calling for a swift and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic demise. While police have yet to release an official statement, the grieving family and residents of Ahwiaa are hoping for answers soon.
The mystery surrounding Richmond’s death has sparked tensions in the community, as locals demand that authorities take immediate action to uncover the truth and bring justice to the family.
The case remains under investigation, but the tragedy has undoubtedly left a deep scar on the hearts of those who knew him.
