M N RidwanA tragic accident on the Sawla-Tuna highway has claimed the lives of a father and his 10-year-old son at Saguri Sakpari in the Savannah Region.
The two, who were returning to Kalba, collided with an abandoned mini commercial bus late at night, resulting in their instant deaths.
The accident happened on the same stretch of road where the mini bus had been involved in a deadly crash just two weeks earlier.
That earlier incident, which occurred after the mini bus collided head-on with an OA bus traveling from Accra to Wa, had already claimed five lives, including the driver and his mate.
While the OA bus was cleared from the scene, the mini bus, severely damaged, was left abandoned on the road, causing concern among local residents.
At the time of this latest fatality, the bodies of the father and son were taken back to Kalba by family members for burial.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage in the community, especially as the mini bus remains at the accident scene, posing a significant risk to other motorists.
Locals are frustrated by the apparent inaction of the authorities. Police officers stationed at a nearby checkpoint were present at the scene of the initial accident but failed to ensure the removal of the abandoned vehicle.
This negligence has led to a growing sense of anger and disbelief within the community.
“It’s frustrating and heartbreaking. This could have been prevented. I saw the police here when the first crash happened, but since then, nothing has been done.
And now this man and his son are dead. Where are the police when we need them?” questioned Issifu Kipo, a concerned local resident.
Another resident, Debla Stephen, echoed the same frustration, calling for immediate action from the Savannah Regional Police Commander to prevent further loss of life.
“How many people need to die before someone acts? We need the police to step up and remove this vehicle before more people are killed,” he said.
As of the time of writing, the abandoned mini bus remains on the Sawla-Tuna highway, continuing to pose a serious danger to drivers in the area.
Local residents are calling for swift action to prevent any more casualties.
