EC Sets Date for Council of State Elections: February 11, 2025

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the election of Regional Representatives to the Council of State will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in all regional capitals across Ghana.

This election is a key part of the country’s democratic processes, and the EC has outlined the necessary steps for individuals interested in standing for election.

From Tuesday, January 28, through Friday, January 31, 2025, the EC is calling for nominations to be submitted to the respective Regional Directors of the Commission during working hours. Nomination forms, which can be downloaded from the EC’s official website, must be filled out in triplicate.

The EC has provided specific guidelines for the nomination process. Each candidate must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters from the region they intend to represent.

Additionally, the nomination must be supported by at least 20 other registered voters from the same region.

Candidates are also required to submit two recent bust-sized photographs along with the completed nomination forms.

A formal consent to the nomination must also be provided, confirming the candidate’s willingness to stand for election to the Council of State.

This election is being held in accordance with the provisions in Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution. The EC’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, signed the statement outlining these procedures, ensuring transparency and clarity in the nomination and election process.

As the February 11 date approaches, the EC is urging all interested parties to ensure they follow the proper guidelines for nomination to guarantee smooth elections.
