M N RidwanA 16-year-old student from Commercial High School, Akure, Ajana Oluwa, has been arrested by the Ondo State Amotekun Corps for allegedly raping his 24-year-old neighbor at knifepoint.
The crime has shocked the local community, and Oluwa, who expressed deep regret for his actions, described the incident as unprovoked.
The arrest of Oluwa came as part of a larger security update by Amotekun Corps, where 28 other suspects were paraded for various crimes, including attempted murder, rape, and burglary.
The Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, highlighted the intensified patrols and intelligence gathering that led to these arrests.
Oluwa admitted to committing the crime but could not explain his behavior, stating, “I don’t know what came over me. I regret my actions.”
Alongside Oluwa, the Amotekun Corps also arrested other individuals involved in serious offenses.
These included Tope, who was apprehended for attempted murder and illegal firearms possession, and Ralph Ajanaku, accused of attempting to rape a woman while threatening her with a weapon.
Adeleye revealed that some suspects were linked to theft and burglary, while others were involved in dismantling stolen vehicles and selling them as scrap.
Additionally, a 25-year-old cult member, Borokini Ayodeji, admitted to stealing from a hospital due to hunger and lack of support.
Despite these arrests, the Amotekun Corps reported a reduction in kidnappings within Ondo State’s main areas.
However, abductions were reported at the state borders with Edo and Kogi, with efforts underway to rescue the victims.
For the festive season, 1,200 Amotekun personnel have been deployed across the state’s 18 local government areas, supported by regular patrols and show-of-force exercises to ensure the safety of residents.
