Prior to elections later this month, Peter Obi, a presidential contender for Nigeria, addressed thousands of his fans at a rally in Lagos.

In the meantime, despite escalating tensions over currency and petrol shortages, Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that the elections will proceed as scheduled.

Sixty-one-year-old former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, ran as the opposition PDP’s vice presidential candidate in the most recent 2019 election.

To that effect, Pension administrator Muyiwa Ojeniyi, who was there at the event, said: “The previous time, I voted for PDP.

“Since I began voting in 2011, PDP has been my choice. But this time, I’m not voting for a party; instead, I’m voting for a person who I hope will save my life, the life of my family, and the future of my future.

“In fact, we are barely surviving as Nigerians because it has been so difficult to live as one. Therefore, we want to survive and make a difference in our lives in Nigeria.”

President Muhammadu Buhari, who is leaving office after serving two terms, will be succeeded by the winner of the election on February 25.

In the past two years, Obi has become more well-known, particularly on social media.

Young people who revolted in October 2020 as part of the Endsars protest movement against police brutality have a greater understanding of politics, which has benefitted him.
