Ghanaians are suffering under President Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP government and it seems he has run out of ideas on how to resolve the current economic crisis facing the country.
Well, former President, John Dramani Mahama has proposed three ways President Akufo-Addo can redeem the country from its current economic hardship.
John Mahama made these comments while speaking at the launch of Think tank “ThinkProgress Ghana” on Thursday, June 30, 2022.
Speaking on the theme “Ghana’s debt burden, reflections and solutions,” the former head of state advised Nana Akufo-Addo to move swiftly to save Ghana’s economy.
The first proposal John Mahama made to Akufo-Addo was the need to sack his Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.
Secondly, he also charged the President to conduct a quick shake-up in this government, as it would do the following;
“Ghana’s debt burden, reflections and solutions,”
Finally, he has advised Akufo-Addo to bring together the brains in Ghana to formulate a comprehensive recovery plan for our economy, as he did to formulate the Senchi Consensus.
John Mahama reminded Akufo-Addo of what has happened in Sri Lanka’s economy while urging him to find immediate solutions to the country’s debt.
The south Asian country has recently sunk into severe economic and social crises. Already sales of petrol and diesel for private vehicles have been banned. There are shortages of essentials like food and medicine also a problem.
“Even more importantly the unbridled and unsustainable borrowing must stop. We can no longer afford to dither and fiddle while our economy heads for the precipice. The consequence of that will be too grave to comprehend,” Mr Mahama added.
