COVID-19: OMICRON CASES DETECTED WITH NO TRAVEL HISTORY IN UK

Covid-19 new variant OMICRON who was detected in South Africa recently, has also been detected in some part of United Kingdom.

And it been Suggested that, the Scotland cases could have been transmitted within the country as some of the cases in Scotland are thought to have no known travel history.

Six cases of the omicron coronavirus variant have been detected in Scotland and London confirmed by authorities.

They are in addition to the three already detected in England.

Two cases have been identified in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area and four cases also detected in the Lanarkshire area.

“We obviously have some travel history of some of the cases, I don’t have all of that detail available to me at this stage, but on some of the cases we are aware that there is no travel history involved”, John Swinney ( Scotland’s first deputy minister) told the BBC.

He also said,” What that tells us is that there must be a degree of community transmission of this particular strain of the virus in the absence of a direct travel connection of some of the cases in the Southern African area”.

“So that obviously opens up further challenges for us in terms of interrupting, the spread of this particular strain of the virus, and that will be the focus of the contact tracing operation that is under way already”.

For the moment, cases reported on Saturday in Brentwood, Essex, has been linked to Larchwood Primary School.

Specialists testing is being made available for all people in the school including the pupils and the staff of the school, a class will be held remotedly.

The first two cases in the UK, were detected on Saturday in Nottingham and Essex. while the third omicron virus case was reported on Sunday in aperson who is no longer in the country.
