KUMASI THE CAPITAL CITY OF THE ASHANTI REGION
Kumasi or (Coomassie/comassie) is the capital city of the Ashanti region Ghana, formally known as the Ashanti Empire, which spread beyond the current Ghana’s 🇬🇭 borders into LA CÔTE D’IVOIRE or IVORY COST.
Kumasi is the second largest metropolitan regional capital city of the Ashanti region, only behind the capital city Accra Ghana.
As of year 2020 the estimated population of Kumasi stand at 3,348,000 million.
Kumasi was established by Nana Osei Tutu the 1st
According to history, Kumasi was Established in around 17th century, by Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu The 1st.the then King of the Ashanti Kingdom, who rule over all the Akan people. Which goes beyond the current boundary of today’s Ghana, formally known as Gold Coast.
The Akan People include, The Asante, Agona, Akuapem, Akwamu, Akyem, Bono, Fante, Kwawu, Wassa and the Sefwi, all within the current boundary of Ghana.
The Akan People or subgroups are the Bia-speaking Akan Groups, which include the Anyin, Baoulé, Chakosi or (Anufo), Nzema, Ahanta, and lastly the Jwira-pepesa.
Majority of these Bia-speaking Akan groups are within the current boundary of LA CÔTE D’IVOIRE or IVORY COST. And some of them settle within Ghana, around Ghana and Ivory Coast border.
Kumasi languages and culture
Kumasi is a well diversed City located right in Southern-Central of Ghana. which served as very important strategically trade route both current and in the past. Apart from been the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom and the famous golden stool. Kumasi and it surrounding is the ancestry land, of the Twi spoken Akan Groups (Asante). The Twi language is widely recognised all over Ghana.
Apart from the National language which is English, Twi language is the most used locally, in fact you can go almost anywhere in Ghana and survive only by speaking Twi. As most of the tribes adapted akan Twi language as their second language because of it popularity.
Kumasi been colourful when it comes to cultural costumes, Kumasi is also home to many difference Tribes and cultures and Religion.
Some of the notable Tribes who settle in Kumasi and it surrounding and call Kumasi home. Are the Morsi, Dagbani, Farafara, Busanga Hausa, Kosassi Gurunsi, Banda, Kotokoli, Zabarma, Fullani, Gao and many many more.

Place of interests when visiting Kumasi, the Manhyia Palace which served as the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom, the Kumasi central market is one of the largest in West Africa, where you can buy some of the best beads and colourful traditional Kente fabrics.
And don’t forget to buy Koobi the dried salted fish, Kontomire the cocoyam leaves plus palm oil and a tuber of Yam for your first delicious traditional Akan afternoon meal.
