Ghana Maintains Cocoa Price for 2025/2026, Stays Steady Amid Côte d’Ivoire Increase

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has confirmed that the producer price of cocoa will remain unchanged for the 2025/2026 season, despite price hikes in neighboring Côte d’Ivoire and the continued fluctuations in the global cocoa market.

In a letter dated April 8, addressed to the Licensed Cocoa Buyers’ Association of Ghana (LICOBAG), COCOBOD explained that this decision was made after a thorough evaluation of the financial and operational aspects of the cocoa industry.

Dr. James Kofi Kutoati, Acting Deputy Chief Executive of Operations at COCOBOD, assured that the decision was taken with the long-term sustainability of the industry in mind.

Currently, the price of cocoa in Ghana stands at GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, or GH₵49,600 per tonne. This price reflects a slight 0.03% increase from the previous season’s rate, which was announced in September for the 2024/2025 crop season.

While other cocoa-producing countries, like Côte d’Ivoire, have raised their producer prices, Ghana has chosen to maintain its current rate for the time being. COCOBOD emphasized that the decision was made to ensure stability in the cocoa market and to protect the interests of both cocoa farmers and other stakeholders in the value chain.

Despite the current price freeze, COCOBOD has noted that a review of cocoa producer prices, along with fees and margins for stakeholders, will be possible during the upcoming season. This leaves room for adjustments based on how the market and global conditions evolve.

The decision reflects COCOBOD’s commitment to creating a stable and sustainable cocoa industry that can continue to thrive in a competitive global market, while supporting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers across the country.
