$761,000 Stolen from My Home, Cecilia Dapaah Tells Accra High Court

Former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, has accused her domestic workers of stealing a large sum of money and valuable items from her home, revealing that the total amount taken amounted to a staggering $761,000.

In an emotional testimony on the witness stand, Dapaah told the Accra High Court that the accused workers, two former female housekeepers, systematically stole large sums of cash and personal belongings from her storage room over an unspecified period.

According to Dapaah, the stolen amounts included $410,000, €300,000, and GHS350,000 (approximately $30,000), in addition to her jewellery, which was valued at $53,000.

She explained that the stolen jewellery, which included pieces she had accumulated over three decades, held immense personal significance, adding to the pain of the theft.

This testimony marks Dapaah’s first appearance in the court proceedings since the trial began in 2023.

She described how the stolen items had been carefully collected over the years, reflecting both her professional and personal achievements.

Dapaah also shared that, in addition to the cash and jewellery, several personal items belonging to her husband, including his clothing, had been taken.

The former minister, who appeared visibly distressed, pointed to the deep betrayal she felt, given that the accused were trusted members of her household.

The trial, which continues to unfold, has attracted public attention due to the nature of the allegations and the significant sum involved.

Dapaah’s testimony is expected to play a key role in the prosecution’s case against the accused.
