M N RidwanThe Buipe-based PBC Shea Factory in the Savannah Region has resumed full operations, marking a major step toward the implementation of President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy.
The factory is now set to run on a three-shift system—morning, afternoon, and night—aiming to create around 30,000 jobs for the youth and women across the country.
The newly appointed Managing Director, Abubakari Abdul Mumin, announced the reopening and revealed that all departments within the factory are now fully functional.
He shared his vision in an interview with JoyNews, promising that the factory will be a cornerstone in the government’s efforts to create jobs and generate wealth.
“When I received my appointment letter from President Mahama, he gave me two key responsibilities,” Mr. Mumin said.
“First, to create employment, and second, to help generate revenue for the central government. With this three-shift operation plan, we’re poised to deliver on both.”
President Mahama originally commissioned the multi-purpose factory in 2012 to process shea into butter and convert soya beans into oil and cake.
Despite a promising start, the factory faced several managerial setbacks, cycling through four directors, which affected its overall productivity.
Now under Mr. Mumin’s leadership, the facility is being restructured to operate at full capacity and play an active role in Ghana’s industrial growth. He brings with him both technical expertise and a practical approach to reviving the factory’s mission.
The factory’s robust infrastructure includes a solvent extraction plant, oil mill, boiler, laboratory, and a De-oiled Cake (DOC) room. It also has a water treatment facility capable of producing 5,700 gallons of water per day and a fuel reserve for internal energy use.
Notably, the DOC is already being used to generate power for the entire facility, reducing dependence on external energy sources.
This renewed focus on round-the-clock productivity is aligned with President Mahama’s broader strategy to boost Ghana’s economy through continuous industrial operations.
With thousands of jobs on the horizon and improved production capacity, the revamped Buipe PBC Shea Factory is well-positioned to become a model for economic transformation in Ghana.
