I Betrayed The Trust Of The Academy, Will Smith. Will Smith reacts to Oscars ban after the slapping of comedian Chris Rock. The actor has been corded from Oscars for good ten years from any related activities.The news comes after the Academy fast-tracked a meeting with academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson and the board of governors to decide the fate of the actor who slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars on 27th March,2022.
Will Smith in a statement, Via the Washington post, “I accept and respect the academy decision.”
This statement comes after April 8, the Academy revealed the outcome of the actor suspension.
The Academy President, David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson wrote that this year’s Oscars, “Were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. smith exhibit on stage.”
They added that; “This action we are talking today in response to Will’s behavior is a step toward a longer goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the academy.
We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.
Five days after the incident, Will Smith resigned from the academy on 1st April, 2022.
In his resignation letter, Will Smith said, ” I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will surely accept any and all the consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful and inexcusable.”
He added, “I betrayed the trust of the Academy, I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and to be celebrated for their extraordinary work, Iam heartbroken.”
