The shocking news of Ghanaian veteran actor, Prince Yawson popularly known as Waakye sent the whole country into a state of mourning.

Following his sad death, veteran actor and good friend of Waakye, Bob Smith Jnr known as Diabolo has narrated accounts shared by some close relatives of the deceased actor prior to his death.

The veteran actor who later turned a pastor reported to have passed on between the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 in the afternoon at 37 Military hospital.

He was rushed to the 37 Military hospital the previous night.

Waakye reported to have suffered for his life as means to access hospital bed in some big hospital in Accra proved futile, even before he gave up the ghost.

Earlier, veteran actress Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono, had disclosed that Waakye was taken to Ridge Hospital but due to the lack of hospital beds, he was moved to the 37 Military Hospital.

The latest to react to the sad news is Diabolo who also attributed Waakye’s death to the ‘no bed syndrome’ at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital).

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, he said: “Waakye has been sick but he got a bit well and was managing but got an attack on Monday night.

“After being unsuccessful to secure a bed for him at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), the family eventually took him to the 37 Military Hospital where they managed to get him a bed after a lot of hustle.

“He had such a restless night till he finally gave up the ghost in the afternoon of Tuesday. He was such a humble person and I will really miss him,’’ he stated.

Waakye battled with stroke for a very long time and had been in and out of hospital receiving treatment.

Diabolo also revealed that he nearly collapsed upon hearing that Waakye has passed away.

Meanwhile, a throwback clip of him in one of his iconic movies has surfaced and lightened the mood a bit.

Folks were hit with nostalgia and remembered when the legend used to be amongst us.

Waakye’s talent has never been in doubt, and the short clip shows just that as the funny video managed to make saddened hearts smile.

The actor passed on on Saturday 2nd August 2022 at the 37 Military Hospital.

He has reportedly been suffering from an undisclosed illness for a while now and finally gave up the ghost.
