Premier League giants, Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax.
The Red Devils in an official club statement said, “Manchester United has reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Antony, subject to a medical, player terms being finalised, and international clearance.”
Antony successfully completed his medical on Monday night at Man United Carrington training complex and is now waiting on visa sorted to get it signed and then official start training with his new teammates.
The Eredivisie champions who were reluctant to sell Antony rejected an improved bid of million (£76m/$90m) from Manchester United. Antony in an interview with Fabrizio Romano expressed his desire to leave Ajax and reunite with his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
“Today, in a meeting with the club, I expressed my old interest in leaving, only this time with a considerable offer on the table. Others had already arrived! Ajax refused with argument that they only have five days to replace me.
“I’m not asking Ajax to release me, I’m asking Ajax to sell me with the highest bid ever for Eredivisie player. I’ve been insisting on this theme since February so that the club could rebuild the team with peace of mind,” he said.
Over the weekend, Manchester United returned to Ajax with another improved bid of €95m guaranteed fee plus €5m in add-ons which was accepted. Antony will sign a contract until June 2027 with option until June 2028.
Antony has 31 goals and 27 assists in 134 club appearances for Ajax and Sao Paulo, and two goals and two assists in nine senior appearances for his native Brazil.
