The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mohammed Abdul-Salam, has issued a strong warning to the public about rising cases of lotto fraud, especially on social media platforms.
Speaking at the NLA’s Easter Community Draw in Kwahu, Nkwatia, Mr. Abdul-Salam urged Ghanaians to stay vigilant and not be deceived by fraudsters claiming to have access to leaked winning numbers.
These scammers often impersonate NLA officials, using stolen images to lure unsuspecting victims with promises of quick riches.
“A lot of these scammers pretend to be NLA insiders. They tell people they can make them rich if they pay a fee. It’s all a lie,” Mr. Abdul-Salam cautioned.
“Nobody can manipulate the lottery numbers. It’s a game of chance. If someone tells you they have the winning numbers, treat it like a prank – just like staking your car number.”
The Director-General made these comments during the vibrant Easter Community Draw held on Saturday, April 19.
The event, part of the NLA’s ongoing community engagement drive, allows the public to witness the draw process in person, building trust and transparency.

“These Community Draws are important. We bring the machines right to the people so they can see the entire process and know it’s fair,” he added.
Mr. Abdul-Salam also highlighted the need for responsible gaming. He reminded patrons not to gamble excessively and emphasized that minors should never participate in lottery games.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Bernard Appiah Gyebi, Managing Director of Prudential Bank, and prominent traditional leaders like the Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, and the Nkwatiahene, Nana Boamah Ayiripe III.
Entertainment at the draw was lively, with celebrated presenters such as Akrobeto, Robert Nana Kodua, Wofa K, and Nancy Awuradwoa Darko engaging the crowd. Patrons participated in games, answered questions, and received souvenirs.
As part of the celebration, the NLA’s Good Causes Foundation also donated items to the chiefs and people of Kwahu. Deputy Director-General Eric Yeboah Wadie, a proud native of Kwahu, led the gesture, which included drinks, bottled water, and cash.
The chiefs thanked the NLA for celebrating Easter in their community and encouraged Mr. Wadie to continue making Kwahu proud in his new role.
