In a historic achievement, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured a commanding majority of 188 seats in Ghana’s 2024 parliamentary elections.
This remarkable win underscores the party’s overwhelming support in both its traditional strongholds and newly gained territories.
The NDC’s impressive victory spans across several key regions in Ghana. In the Upper West and Upper East regions, the NDC swept all available seats, securing 11 out of 11 and 15 out of 15 seats, respectively.
The party also triumphed in the Oti and Volta regions, winning all available seats—9 out of 9 in Oti and 18 out of 18 in Volta.
In the Bono East and Bono regions, the NDC claimed 10 out of 11 and 11 out of 12 seats, respectively, demonstrating its broad appeal in the central parts of the country.
The NDC also made significant inroads into swing regions, notably winning 30 out of 34 seats in Greater Accra and 18 out of 23 seats in Central Region, areas that had previously been contested by both the NPP and NDC.
In the Western and Western North regions, the NDC secured 15 out of 17 and 8 out of 9 seats, further consolidating its influence in the country.
Despite losing ground in regions like the Ashanti Region, where the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) still maintained dominance, the NDC’s overall performance signals a shift in Ghana’s political landscape.
The party’s success, particularly in traditionally NPP-strong areas, could significantly impact the upcoming presidential race and the country’s governance for the next parliamentary term.
With such a strong showing in the legislature, the NDC has positioned itself as a powerful force, not only in shaping the future direction of Ghana’s politics but also in ensuring its influence in the executive branch in the next elections.
This victory marks a new chapter in Ghana’s political history, with the NDC poised to play a crucial role in the nation’s leadership.
