The Ministry Of Health has indicated that, if the rate of vaccination does not improve, it may be forced to trigger a mandatory vaccination in Ghana.
Conforming to the ministry, the sector has potential to trigger mandatory vaccination through the Public Health Act.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of health, Kwabena Boadu Oku Afari said, “the Minister for Health has the power to do that through the executive instrument and that will have the legal backing and when that happens, it can be rolled out throughout the country.”
At the moment, out of the 6.6 million people who have received at least one dose, 2.8 million Ghanaians have been fully vaccinated.
Ghana has recorded 1,313 deaths out of the 148,079 recorded cases of the virus.
Ghana’s active cases has seen risen to 13,576 with the last 30 days following the detection of the Omicron variant.
As at December 18, 2021, Ghana had only 2,887 cases.
However, the government declared the last month of 2021 as the month of vaccination, among the growing worries of the vaccine uncertainty amongst Ghana’s population.

This has been followed by directives like the instructions to all persons arriving at the Kotoka International Airport been vaccinated before they can be permitted to enter the country.
Initially, the government had wanted to vaccinate about 20 million Ghanaians before the 2021 year end, but had moved the target to the end of the first four months of 2022.
It has been proposed that, there could be a compulsory vaccination.
