Man Who Killed Six Relatives Sentenced to Six Life Terms

In a trag!c and shocking case, Sthembiso Nkosinathi Mthimkhulu, a 38-year-old man from South Africa, has been sentenced to six consecutive life terms for the brutal k!llings of six of his relatives.

The sentences were handed down by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on December 12, 2024, following a deeply disturbing series of events in February 2021.

The k!llings occurred in the Nkanini area of Eshowe after Mthimkhulu became convinced that his uncle had used witchcraft to cause the de@th of a family member.

Consumed by anger and suspicion, Mthimkhulu planned the k!llings, targeting his uncle and his family.

On February 20, 2021, Mthimkhulu arrived at his uncle’s home, where several family members were gathered.

Without warning, he opened fire, k!lling six people, including his uncle and two young children aged eight and ten.

After the de@dly attack, Mthimkhulu fled the scene but was tracked down by police in Greytown after he visited a traditional healer. He was arrested shortly after.

During the trial, Advocate Mbongeni Chamane from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) presented emotional testimonies from survivors, including a survivor’s eyewitness account and powerful Victim Impact Statements.

In addition to the six life sentences, Mthimkhulu was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The NPA praised the efforts of the prosecution and police in bringing justice to the victims’ families.

The verdict serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of senseless violence and provides a degree of closure to a family torn apart by this tragedy.
