M N RidwanPresident John Dramani Mahama marked this year’s Mother’s Day with warm messages of love and gratitude to Ghanaian mothers, with a special visit to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who is recovering from a recent illness.
In a heartfelt post shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, President Mahama revealed that he paid a personal visit to the Vice President earlier that morning to check on her health and well-being.
“A special Mother’s Day greeting to my Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, whom I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this morning,” he wrote.
“She is taking a deserved rest after recovering from illness and looking forward to resuming her duties soon.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was reported to have fallen ill suddenly on March 28, 2025, and was taken to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day.
Medical experts later recommended that she seek further care abroad as a precaution to ensure a full recovery.
She officially began a three-week medical leave on April 7, 2025, focusing on her recovery and overall health. Government sources have since confirmed that she is steadily improving.
President Mahama’s Mother’s Day message extended beyond his visit, as he used the occasion to honour all Ghanaian mothers for their strength, love, and sacrifices.
“To her and all Ghanaian mothers, I say Happy Mother’s Day,” he added in the post, receiving warm responses and appreciation from citizens online.
His gesture, both in words and action, was widely seen as a show of solidarity and compassion—qualities many say reflect the values of the day.
