M N RidwanPresident John Dramani Mahama has set out on a significant peace-building mission to Bawku and Nalerigu today, aiming to mediate and help resolve the long-standing conflict in the Bawku region.
The visit, taking place on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, is part of Mahama’s ongoing commitment to fostering peace and stability in one of Ghana’s most conflict-affected areas.
The Bawku conflict has spanned several years, disrupting lives and communities in the region.
During his visit, President Mahama will engage with both conflict factions and key local stakeholders, focusing on promoting dialogue and seeking inclusive, long-term solutions to the violence that has marred the area.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Presidential Spokesperson, emphasized the President’s determination to bring peace to Bawku, underscoring his approach of diplomacy and open conversation.
“The President is determined to resolve the decades-old conflict in Bawku and will use the visit to engage the conflict factions and key stakeholders to promote dialogue to achieve lasting peace,” he stated.
Mahama’s mission aligns with his broader vision for a united and peaceful Ghana, where disputes are resolved through mutual understanding and collaboration.
His visit highlights the administration’s focus on peace and reconciliation as vital components of good governance in 2025.
After completing his engagements in both Bawku and Nalerigu, President Mahama is expected to return to Accra later today, where the ongoing peace initiatives will continue to shape his leadership priorities.
This visit not only signals the President’s commitment to peace but also reflects the government’s broader goals of promoting development and national unity through peaceful resolutions.
