KNUST Student St@bbed at NPP “Thank You” Tour

A student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is currently receiving medical treatment after being stabbed during a violent scene at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) “Thank You” tour held in Bantama, Kumasi.

The student, believed to be a resident of Unity Hall (popularly known as Conti), was part of a Jama group that had been invited to perform at the event organized by supporters of Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central.

The event, held at the Pentecost Church in Bantama on Tuesday, took a dangerous turn when a misunderstanding broke out.

Eyewitnesses say the tension started after a wealthy supporter of Agyapong handed over cash to the Jama group as a token of appreciation. Shortly after, a group of unidentified, heavily built men—some reportedly armed—stormed the area and seized the money.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control. Verbal exchanges led to gunshots being fired, and in the confusion, one member of the Jama group was stabbed multiple times.

Onlookers rushed to help the injured student, who was quickly transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s emergency unit.

Hospital officials have yet to release the student’s current condition, but sources confirm he is receiving ongoing care.

Kennedy Agyapong’s team has since lodged a formal complaint with the Kumasi Central Police Command. However, as of Wednesday, no arrests had been made.

This violent incident has raised fresh concerns about internal divisions within the NPP and the growing insecurity surrounding political events, especially in the Ashanti Region, which is traditionally considered a party stronghold.

Many are now calling for better event security and swift action from law enforcement to ensure that party gatherings remain peaceful and inclusive.
