Two days ago, we previously reported that Ghana Premier League champions, Kotoko could up signing the former Black Stars player on a free transfer after Hearts of Oak failed to renew his contract.
The former AC Milan and Inter Milan player joined the Accra-based club mid-way during the last season and signed a 6-months contract with the Phobians.
The 2010 Champions League winner has rejected a new contract extension from Hearts as they prepare to represent Ghana in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
According to several media reports, Asante Kotoko is in talks with Sulley Muntari as they try to lure him away from their rival Hearts of Oak after he turned in a new contract offer.
Latest reports emerging from the camp of Muntari suggest that, the legendary midfielder has signed for Kotoko after leaving Accra Hearts of Oak at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Muntari is set to follow the footsteps of his younger brother Muniru Sulley who featured for the Porcupine Warriors during the 2020/21 campaign once his deal is confirmed by the Porcupine Warriors.
Muntari’s experience will be key for the Premier League kingpins in the CAF Champions League.
The 37-year-old proved his mettle in the games he featured for the Phobians and helped them to win the MTN FA Cup.
Muntari has been spotted training close to where Asante Kotoko is also training ahead of their trip to Turkey in Accra.
The current league champions are warming themselves up in Accra as they prepare to fly to Turkey for pre-season to continue their preparation for to new coming season.
The Reds have already signed expatriate players to strengthen their side ahead of the new football season.
This will be a blow for the Accra-based should the deal is announced that Muntari joins their bitter rivals Kotoko as he has been a very important player since joining them half-way in the mid-season.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will open their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season with a home game against Nsoatraman FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.
In the preliminary round of the Champions League, Kotoko has been paired with the Burkinabe side, RC Kadiogo.
Sulley Muntari played in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cup in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil on a free transfer.
Also, Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has formally tendered his resignation letter to Asante Kotoko and is no longer the head coach of the club.
In addition to the salary arrears, Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum will be paid a huge bonus for helping the club emerge as champions of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
