Government Lifts Curfew in Northern Ghana’s Saboba and Bimbilla Regions

M N RidwanThe government has officially lifted the curfew imposed on Saboba and Bimbilla in the Northern Region, signaling a positive shift in the area’s security situation.
The decision, which took effect immediately, was made after the intervention of the Chiefs and the community’s efforts to maintain peace, along with noticeable improvements in safety.
In a statement signed by the Interior Minister, Munataka Mubarak, on February 24, 2025, the lifting of the curfew was announced, following the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council.
The statement highlighted that the lifting of the curfew was driven by the genuine desire of the Chiefs and people in the area to continue promoting peace and security.
“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council, has lifted the curfews on Saboba and Bimbilla with immediate effect.
This decision has been necessitated by the concerted efforts of the Chiefs and people of the area to sustain peace, as well as the marked improvement in the security situation,” the statement read.
The government expressed its gratitude to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and all the people of Saboba and Bimbilla for their continued commitment to peaceful coexistence.
It further urged them to continue resolving conflicts through peaceful means, ensuring long-term stability in the region.
While the lifting of the curfew is a positive step for the community, the government remains committed to supporting efforts that uphold peace and security in the Northern Region.
