M N RidwanThe Appointments Committee of Parliament will today, Wednesday, 22 January 2025, proceed with the vetting of two key ministerial nominees after a brief delay.
Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, nominated for the position of Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, nominated for Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, were originally scheduled for vetting on Tuesday, 21 January.
The delay was attributed to extended deliberations on other nominees and additional parliamentary commitments.
Despite the setback, Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Local Affairs, successfully underwent his vetting on the same day.
The Appointments Committee has assured the public that the rescheduled vetting sessions will proceed as planned today.
The committee continues its important work of reviewing the qualifications and suitability of President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees as part of efforts to finalize his cabinet and enhance governance under the new administration.
Meanwhile, Parliament has already approved six of President Mahama’s ministerial nominees for vital positions in his government.
These include Haruna Iddrisu as Minister for Education, Kwame Agbodza as Minister for Roads and Highways, and Eric Opoku as Minister for Food and Agriculture.
Also confirmed are Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister for Finance, Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, and John Jinapor as Minister for Energy.
As the vetting process progresses, all eyes are now on today’s session, which could see the confirmation of these two important ministerial nominees.
