F!re Strikes Two Resorts in Ellembelle, But All Guests Safe

A f!re outbreak on the evening of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, has left 18 rooms at the Maaha Beach Resort in the Ellembelle District completely destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were recorded.

The blaze is believed to have started around 7:00 p.m. at the nearby Vision Beach Resort, and quickly spread to sections of the Maaha Beach Resort, engulfing parts of its guest rooms and infrastructure.

Quick intervention by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) helped contain the fire by 10:00 p.m..

Speaking to Citi News, District Fire Commander DO2 Mark Hamilton confirmed the extent of the damage and clarified that although both resorts suffered significant property loss, all affected rooms were unoccupied at the time.

“For Maaha Beach, 18 rooms were affected. For Vision Resort, 15 rooms were affected. There were no casualties.

As we speak, the situation is under control. The rooms that were affected had no occupants. Maaha is operational,” DO2 Hamilton said.

Rumors had circulated that a fire tender from Ghana Gas was unable to assist due to chemical limitations.

However, Commander Hamilton dismissed those claims, stating the Ghana Gas fire truck was the first to arrive at the scene, making it there in under five minutes after the distress call was placed.

“The call was placed at 07:59 hours, and we arrived at the scene by 08:04 hours. There was no issue with the fire tender from Ghana Gas — in fact, that was the first one dispatched,” he explained.

A second fire pump was called in later to reinforce firefighting operations and ensure the blaze did not spread to surrounding areas.

While operations have resumed at Maaha Beach Resort, a detailed investigation is expected to be launched by the GNFS to determine the cause of the fire and evaluate safety protocols at both resorts to prevent future incidents.

Guests are currently being redirected to unaffected sections of the resort, and management has assured the public that all safety measures are being reviewed and strengthened.
