Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has firmly denied claims that he approved a $1.7 million single-source procurement contract.

In a post shared on his Facebook account on March 22, Dr. Forson described the allegations as “completely false” and urged the public to disregard them.

The claims, which had been circulating in the media, suggested that Dr. Forson had authorized a large procurement deal without following the standard competitive bidding process.

However, the Finance Minister has vehemently rejected these accusations, calling them “baseless and misleading.”

In his social media statement, Dr. Forson said, “My attention has been drawn to yet another baseless and misleading claim about an alleged $1.7 million single-source procurement contract approved by me. This claim is completely false and should be disregarded.”

He added that since taking office, he has not approved any procurement contracts.

Dr. Forson also emphasized his dedication to transparency and accountability, affirming that his actions as Minister have always been in line with ethical governance and responsible economic management.

“Let me state clearly and categorically: I have not approved any procurements since I took office.

My focus remains on ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsible economic management in the best interest of Ghana,” he wrote.

To further clarify the situation, the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) issued a statement affirming that it has not approved any contract of the nature described in the allegations.

This incident has brought attention to the importance of due process and transparency in government spending, especially in the context of large procurement contracts.

Dr. Forson’s reassurances have been aimed at maintaining public trust in his administration’s handling of Ghana’s finances.

The Finance Minister concluded by reiterating his commitment to upholding high ethical standards in the management of the country’s resources, stressing that his priority remains to foster fiscal responsibility while ensuring all financial transactions adhere to proper protocols.
