Black Stars Move Up in FIFA Rankings Following Big Wins Over Chad and Madagascar

In a positive turn for Ghana’s football scene, the Black Stars have climbed one spot in the latest FIFA world rankings, moving from 77th to 76th position.

This marks their first upward movement since July 2024, when they shifted from 64th to 60th.

The Black Stars’ rise comes after a successful start to the 2025 calendar year, thanks to two crucial victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Ghana defeated both Chad and Madagascar in their recent matches, securing their first wins since June 2024.

This marks a much-needed boost after a long stretch without a win, with their most recent victory coming against the Central African Republic in June.

The wins have paid off, lifting Ghana above Israel, who dropped two places in the rankings. Despite this progress, Ghana’s position in the continental rankings remains unchanged.

They still hold 14th place in Africa, a sign that there’s room for improvement.

For Ghanaian fans, this slight but encouraging rise offers hope for better results in future qualifiers and tournaments.

Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, will undoubtedly be looking to continue building on this momentum as the team prepares for their upcoming fixtures later in the year.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign still in full swing, Ghana’s upward trajectory could be the start of even greater things to come, but the team must maintain their form and push for higher rankings as they aim to reclaim their position among Africa’s football giants.
