Basintale Draws the Line: No More GH¢250 for Sweepers Under My Watch

The acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has issued a bold statement, vowing not to renew Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s contract if the company continues to pay sanitation workers a meager GH¢250.

In a passionate Facebook post on Friday, April 25, Mr. Basintale slammed the current wage arrangement, calling it exploitative and disrespectful to the hardworking Ghanaians keeping the country clean.

He described the deal as a “rip-off” and unfit for any administration that values fairness and dignity.

“All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the youth and people of Ghana,” he stated.

“I promise on my honour… NOT to RENEW the contract in its CURRENT STATE or FORM. It is EVIL for the previous government to have committed to this and I SHALL STOP IT.”

The statement comes amid rising public criticism over the contract, with investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni being one of the most vocal voices calling for reform.

Awuni has repeatedly highlighted the poor conditions faced by sanitation workers and the alleged lack of transparency in the contract’s execution.

Basintale added that the issue was personal for him, saying, “If my mother, brother, or sister were a Zoomlion worker, I wouldn’t be happy with any of them taking GH¢250 as salary.”

He has urged all Ghanaians to join him in a Facebook Live session at 8 pm tonight to discuss the next steps and hear the public’s views on how to fix the broken system.

His firm stance has sparked widespread reactions, with many applauding him for taking a strong position to fight for the welfare of sanitation workers across the country.
