Asamoah Gyan: I Regret Not Playing for Manchester United

Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has revealed a dream he never got to fulfill during his career — playing for English giants, Manchester United.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based TV3, the former Black Stars captain admitted that while he had a rewarding football journey, one of his biggest regrets was not wearing the famous red jersey of Manchester United.

“I really wish I had played for Manchester United before I retired,” Gyan said with a smile. “It was one of the teams I admired a lot growing up.”

Gyan had a brief but memorable spell in the English Premier League with Sunderland, where he made headlines with his skill, flair, and crucial goals.

His time in England left fans wanting more, but he later opted for a big-money move to Asia, where he continued to shine on the pitch.

“Leaving England was a tough decision, but the offer from Asia was one I couldn’t ignore,” Gyan added. “Still, United would’ve been a dream come true.”

Gyan also brought some humor into the chat when asked about his funniest teammate. Without hesitation, he named Kwadwo Asamoah.

“People think Kwadwo is quiet because of how shy he looks, but he’s actually hilarious!” Gyan said, laughing. “He always had us in stitches during camp. He’s a different person off the pitch.”

Asamoah Gyan, who officially retired from football in 2023, remains one of Africa’s most respected strikers. With over 50 goals for the national team, he is Ghana’s all-time top scorer and was instrumental in some of the Black Stars’ most memorable moments on the global stage.

Though he never made it to Old Trafford, Gyan’s legacy in world football remains intact — a mix of talent, charisma, and unforgettable goals.
