NSA Director General Expects 2023 National Cross Country Competition To Be Challenging
The National Cross-Country Championship scheduled for Savelugu, Tamale on Saturday, February 25, is expected to have a harder competition, according to Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The competition, which was organized by the NSA in association with the Ghana Athletics Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, would aid in identifying potential athletes who may represent Ghana in both domestic and international competitions.
In an interview with GNA Sports following the Ashanti Regional Cross-Country event, the NSA director stated that his organization was dedicated to making this year’s long-distance tournament a success and bettering the previous editions.
The 2023 National Cross-Country Competition, which would take place at Savelugu in Tamale’s Northern Region, “will be better than the previous ones that we have held,” in particular this year.
He believed it was proper to let athletes from all over the nation to compete at the regional level in order to select the best athletes to compete at the national level.
To that effect, he praised Mr. Emmanuel Appiah of the NSA’s Ashanti Regional Directorate for his persistent efforts in organizing a successful competition to choose 20 enthusiastic men and women to represent the region at the national level.
“I personally came here to watch the procedures, and I believe they have been successful,” he said.
“I know the other regions are doing the same, and the Northern Region has already completed its inter-district selection process. The Ahafo Region also goes through the same process,” he added.
Abigail Abugri and Noah Wumbriche were crowned the winners of the recently concluded Ashanti Regional Cross Country race with speeds of 29:12.31 and 25:17.68, respectively.
The Ashanti Region will compete in the national cross-country race alongside the other 15 regions.
