King Promise Wonder Why He Failed To Win An Award During The VGMA

Gregory Bortey Newman, popularly known as ” king Promise ” who is a Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat Singer and songwriter, failed to win any awards despite his numerous nomination at just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA).

“Despite All My Nominations I Don’t No Why I Couldn’t Win VGMA”

King Promise, who broke into the music scene in 2016 with his music “selfish”, “Thank God” among others, is not happy about him not winning any awards since he received his first awards since 2019.

Speaking In an interview on TV3 New Day programme, King Promise wondered why he failed to win VGMA during the same period that he has received some International recognition.

“Honestly, I have no issue with the VGMA, If I did, like I won’t be on that stage performing. I didn’t know how the night was going to go. Obviously, it just went how it went. At the end of the day, all I am doing is making my music and pushing the agenda which is Ghana music to the world.”

He continued, “I don’t know what the issue is but my team and I are going to see if there is actually an issue.”

“I am a Ghanaian, when I travel, and I am doing tours and stuff, it’s very big, I win awards like best African Artiste in Nigeria, I am nominated for the MOBA’s and stuff, and then when you come back home, it’s kind of funny.”

King Promise further added that, “If you are taking it to the world, you have to own your land as well. So obviously, it does matter to me. But it’s not the main thing I am working for. But like I said, it gets to a point where it starts to be an issue.

The afrobeat musician, received four nomination including Artiste of the Year category but failed to win any of them.

“I didn’t know if it’s me or it’s the system or whatever. Maybe people think I am not close to a lot of people, I am always in my corner. l don’t know if that’s the issue, still looking for what the issue is because even me, myself I don’t know”, he said.
