A terror head-on crash in Limpopo, South Africa, left 12 people dead with 8 others serious injured, for which the incident was blamed on a driver losing control due to burst tyre.

The accident involved a 22-seater Iveco bus and a Toyota SUV on the N1 near Mookgophong, in Limpopo on Tuesday.

Images surfacing on social media indicates smoke coming out from one of the vehicles by the side of the dual carriageway where there was no central reservations.

The transport department and the community safety said the driver of the Toyota allegedly lost control following a burst tyre and collided with the 22-seater Mercedes Benz bus.

“The bus burst into flames and eleven occupants trapped inside were burnt to death. The driver of the SUV was also killed on impact. Eight people survived, six are seriously injured and two escaped with minor injuries”, the department stated.

“Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the affected families and wish speedy recovery to the survivors.

The MEC had also given out advice to motorist, it said motorists should inspect their vehicles before setting on the roads.

Also over hundreds of people wrote on Facebook of their sadness for those involved and also questioning the safety on the road which which have seen many accidents happening.

Many of the people raised their concerns on this incident and the happenings in the road.

The transport authority have warned the public to take care and inspect their vehicles before using them due to rising numbers of accidents.

Three days ago in the same area of Limpopo has seen a fatal crash which lead to lost of lives.

“Three people were killed and one escaped with serious injuries in a head-on crash between a VW Polo and a VW Sedan on the D3110 road at Mokurwenyane village outside Lephalale in Waterberg on January 8”, reported the transport department and the community safety.
